Art and Design
The National Curriculum for Art and Design aims to ensure that all pupils: produce creative work by exploring their ideas and recording their experiences; become increasingly proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques; evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design; know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art form.
In Leigh on Mendip we learn the skills of drawing, painting, printing, collage and 3D sculpture. We look at the work of influential and current artists and use our sketchbook to record our ideas. Art is taught as a discrete subject with links made to other subjects where appropriate.
We use Kapow Primary to deliver our Art curriculum. This ensures that knowledge skills are progressively built upon as children move through the school.
Art and Design includes:
Generating ideas and using sketchbooks, taking inspiration from a range of artists
Making skills: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, mixed media, craft techniques and sculpture
Formal elements: colour, form, line, pattern, shape, texture and tone
Knowledge of artists work and techniques
Evaluating: critiquing their own work and that of others.
